Discovering and Creating Lesson Plans

1.  Browse for Lesson Plan Ideas at discoveryschool.com    The site seems slow but is filled with much information.  It is divided into the following grade levels (Grades K-5, Grades 6-8, Grades 9-12) and the following subjects (Astronomy/Space, Earth Science, Economics, Geography, Health, History, Ancient History, U.S. History, World History, Life Science, Animals, Ecology, Human Body, The Microscopic World, Plants, Literature, Physical Scienc, Technology, and Weather.

Select the subject and the grade and push go.

2.  Browse for Lesson Plan Ideas at Curriculum and Instruction.    This excellent site has tons of links to lesson plan sites.  It is designated as a Middle School site but has material appropriate for all levels.  Find and book mark your favorite ones.  List their names and/or url addresses below:

3.  Browse for Lesson Plans at your favorite site.  Name some of these:

4.  Refine your search by narrowing your topic to one subject.  Name your topic ____________________________________.

5.  Use search engines to see what else is available.  The Internet has more than 150 search engines.  I have linked just a few that have proven to be helpful resources.  Select and click on one search engine,  type in the name of your topic and push submit.

Ask Jeeves  Have a question?  Just type it in and ask.
Alta Vista  searches 21 million Web page and Usenet news groups, but claims to be faster than
existing search engines.
Excite searches more than 50 million Web sites and two weeks of Usenet News.
Go2Net's Metacrawler  Browse the net's best directory.
Google  Search 1,326,920,000 web pages.
HotBot, connected with Lycos, is a good site for English teacher research.
Lycos, a comprehensive Internet database, allows Boolean 'and' and 'or' combinations of words
in searching more than 19 million Web sites.
Magellan  has  reviews and rates for 45,000 Web sites.
WebCrawler  operates by navigating the Web and either building an index for later use or by
searching in real-time.  This has a lot of good English resources under entertainment.
Yahoo has a fairly comprehensive subject index, but its search engine is weak.

Title of Lesson:  Appropriate for What Grade Levels

Goals/Objectives:A broad view of the purpose, aim, and rationale for the lesson.  Is this lesson connected to National, State, or Local Standards?  What will the students be able to do after the lesson is completed? Try to design a lesson that meets the four goals listed for Designing Performance Assessments.  Modify these goals to fit your lesson plan.

Prerequisites:  What knowledge do students need to have as readiness for this lesson?

Materials: What weblinked resources will be used with this lesson?  Select at least three links below and incorporate them into your lesson plan.  When doing so, type the visible name of the link and the url address.  You can find the url address by holding the mouse down on the link and pushing "copy this link."  Then return to your word processing file and paste the link into the text.   Here are some choices:

Lesson Description:    Use  Bloom's Taxonomy to design a description of the topic focus and lesson activities.
Lesson Procedure:  Provide a chronolgical list of steps needed to complete the lesson.

Assessment:  Explore what research says about assessment at the Eric/AE Full Text Library.  Included are links to the best full-text books, reports, journal articles, newsletter articles and papers on the Internet that address educational measurement, evaluation and learning theory. Search Assessment and Evaluation on the Internet.
Incorporate some sort of Assessment and Evaluation.
